ABOUT THE PLACE –

Miramar beach is equally popular with locals and tourists. It is situated at the distance of 3km from Panaji, Goa’s capital. It is one of the two beaches in Panjim, located on the banks of River Mandovi. The beach is famous for the soft golden sands and tall, waving palm trees.The moonlit parties are a rage here; they are well organised, surplus food can be availed and endless beach parties under the blazing full moon. This beach is flourishing with tourists in all seasons. The temperature varies as per the seasons but tourists are loyal to the beach. This is one of the popular beaches who contribute a lot to the state’s revenue.

Miramar beach has been popular since it was discovered by the hippies. This beach was known as the “GASPER DIAS BEACH” for quite long. Originally it was named the PORTA DE GASPAR DIAS by the Portuguese until recently the name was changed to Miramar beach. The word ‘MIRAMAR’ is also of the Portuguese origin, meaning ‘viewing the sea’. True to it’s name, the beach overlooks the deep blue Arabian sea. Locals and tourists come over to take a long walk on this 2km long beach, sit in the shades of the palm trees, the waves touching your feet makes the whole experience memorable and enthralling. 

The beach has all kinds of entertainment available for people. Live music, beach shacks, luxury hotels, quality food, best of liquor and some exclusive shopping are some of the perks offered by this beach. However, this beach has a  drawback which is adventurous activities are strictly prohibited here owing to a robust undercurrent of water. So, one might feel disappointed but  the organised dolphin tours are a catch. 

HOW TO REACH- 

BY AIR- Dabolim airport is the only airport offering both nations and international flights to major cities and countries.

BY TRAIN- Karmali is the nearest railway station which is about 12kms away. Hire a prepaid taxi or auto to reach.

BY ROAD- Government run buses are the best option which run in every half an hour. pre-paid taxis are also a great option these days.

HOLIDAY TIPS-

Miramar beach has quite a few tourist attractions around. One should visit Dhempe College of Arts and Science, which is the memorial to Goa’s first chief minister. Do not miss visiting The Aguada Fort while on the beach. The greatest attraction of this beach is the Dolphin tour organised on boats. You can choose for a shared trip or have the whole boat to yourself, depends on how much are you willing to pay. Big vessels can also be spotted and some hotels offer exclusive cruise trips to members. Diamond merchant, the oldest jail of goa is also worth visiting. 

If you are visiting for the first time, choose to come in winters as it is the best season to witness the huge variety of migratory birds. While visiting, be careful of your valuable stuff and can. Do not at any cost, venture into the sea waves which is frequently in a rough state. There are certain areas the tourists claim to have experienced quicksand; do study and plan well before visiting.
